Come along, join the fun, all are welcome at our Morris Dancing classes…
Born in April 2009, Sharp Morris are a Cotswold Morris side that hail from Cecil Sharp House in Camden - the home of the English Folk Dance and Song Society.
We met at CSH's Tuesday night Morris Dancing class, led by the wonderful John Russell, who was very quickly installed as, and remains our honorary Squire and Foreman.
We are named after Cecil Sharp, the founder of the English Folk Dance Society in 1911 (later EFDSS), and the man helped kick-start the revival of Morris Dancing in late 1800s and early 1900s.
Having been taught by John Russell, we dance in the style of the great side 'The Beaux of London City', who have unfortunately ceased to dance. We hope that we do justice to our connection to them, and their style.
New dancers are always welcome. We now practise at Cecil Sharp House, 2 Regent’s Park Road, London NW1 7AY. Come along if you'd like to dip your toe in…
What a wonderful performance! I really got a taste of English Folk Dance!
